Speech and Language Therapy - Say and Play

High level language disorders (may be associated with dyslexia)

A high level language disorder may not be noticed until a child is at school. They may appear to have developed their language and speech quite appropriately but then teachers notice that the child may find it difficult to understand certain things such as complex grammar, certain concepts or non literal expressions such as 'pull your socks up'. They may also find it hard to express themselves when trying to convey more complicated ideas. Some of these children may also struggle to find the right words to use when talking and so may use a wrong word e.g. say 'pine cone' when they meant 'pineapple'.
