Auditory Processing
Auditory Processing is the medical term for listening and making sense of what is heard. Poor auditory processing skills will impact on speech and language development.
A child with auditory processing difficulties may have good hearing but is not able to ‘listen’ and make sense of what is heard.
Auditory Processing can be helped through speech and language therapy intervention as well as through some sound therapy techniques involving listening to CDs on head phones.
A history of glue ear or ongoing middle ear infections can disrupt a child’s auditory processing skills.
